 Health Care

Picture
Health care is a shared responsibility that is grounded in our second Unitarian Universalist Principle.

The second Unitarian Universalist Principle states:  "We covenant to affirm and promote justice, equity and compassion in human relations."

“In the bonds of our human family, we are created to be equal.  We are guided by a divine will to treat each person with dignity and to live together as an inclusive community.  Affirming our commitment to the common good, we acknowledge our enduring responsibility to care for one another.  As we recognize that society is whole only when we care for the most vulnerable among us, we are led to discern the human right to health care and wholeness.  Therefore, we are called to act with compassion by sharing our abundant health care resources with everyone!"  -- Unitarian Universalist Association

We strive for collaborative relationships with statewide healthcare and health policy-oriented organizations and interest groups. Each helps to educate us and to magnify our impact by directing us toward legislative and public policy areas where our voice as a faith-based organization can make the greatest difference.

Our healthcare areas of focus:
  • Support the passing of bills that promote systemic change —social, economic, and environmental—to improve the health of all Mainers. These include Universal HealthCare and Reproductive Justice.
  • Public health efforts include treatment for substance abuse disorders, ensuring safe food and water in communities, preventing injury and death from gun violence, and ensuring all Mainers have access to services.
