MUUSAN Guide to November 2016 Maine Ballot Initiatives
In the Nov. 8 election, Maine voters will decide on six ballot initiatives. MUUSAN has formally endorsed four of these with a YES position, based on the call of our Unitarian Universalist Principles:
Highest Endorsement:
• Question 5, Institute Ranked Choice Voting
Strong Endorsement:
• Question 4, Raise the Minimum Wage
• Question 3, Require Background Checks for Firearms (Responsible Gun Ownership)
Endorsement:
• Question 2, Stand Up for Students: Fully Fund Public Schools with 3% surcharge on household
income over $200,000
MUUSAN has developed one-page Issue Papers explaining how our UU principles inform a YES position on each of these ballot initiatives and offering talking points on each question.
In addition, MUUSAN clergy have prepared five Chalice Lighting Rituals to help ground our work to support these initiatives in our UU Principles and in our UU history of social justice advocacy.
