MUUSAN Congregational Legislative Liaisons

Unitarian Universalist congregations in the state of Maine have an opportunity to build a stronger connection with MUUSAN's legislative advocacy work through a network of Congregational Legislative Liaisons. MUUSAN encourages each Maine Unitarian Universalist church to recruit one or two people to act as liaisons for their congregation.

The CLL is a time-limited volunteer position that is synchronized with the Maine State Legislature’s sessions. The CLL’s primary responsibility is to act as a central conduit for information about social justice advocacy between individual UU congregations and MUUSAN.

Become a Congregational Legislative Liaison

The Congregational Legislative Liaison is encouraged to inform MUUSAN about their congregation’s planned advocacy activities and in turn the CLL will relay important legislative action alerts and activities to members of their congregation. CLLs are NOT responsible for leading electoral justice work in their congregation. It is hoped that the CLL will assist members of our UU congregations to participate fully in our shared social justice legislative ministry..

During the 2022 legislative session, CLLs will be supported by the MUUSAN Congregational Legislative Liaison Chair, Sue Ellen Bordwell, and the MUUSAN Administrative Coordinator, Reba Richardson. CLLs will have regular opportunities for virtual check-ins with fellow volunteers, as well as regular communication with the Chair.

Weekly CLL Meetings via Zoom

Picture
All CLL’s are invited to participate in weekly networking meetings via Zoom. The purpose of these meetings is to provide a venue to share information about our advocacy efforts throughout the state and to learn of urgent legislative advocacy actions. CLLs do not have to attend the meetings every week, but are encouraged to attend regularly.
